The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is a centrist, progressive political party in Pakistan, which was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain Imran Khan on 25 April 1996 in Lahore, Pakistan. Founded initially as a sociopolitical movement, In June 1996 the first Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was formed under the leadership of Imran Khan, included the following eight founding fathers:
Muhammad Najeeb Haroon, Nazim Haji, Hamid Khan, Dr Parvez Hassan, Abdul Hafeez Khan, Owais Ghani, Dr Abdul Mateen, and Dr. Mohammad Farooq.
PTI began to grow slowly but never achieved immediate popularity. And in general Elections of 1997 and 2002 saw very little success. PTI has established itself as one of the country’s mainstream national parties mainly after 30 October 2011 when over a hundred thousand people gathered in Lahore in support of the Party. After this Jalsa PTI emerged as third force again two main stream parties, PPP and PML-N. PTI got serious boost in November and December 2011 when two important leaders Shah Mehmood Quraishi from PPP and Javed Hashmi of PML-N joined PTI. After this huge mile stone electables from different constituencies start joining PTI fluently which gives the impression that State establishment is Supporting PTI against main stream parties.
PTI claims to have over 6 million workers in Pakistan, popularly called ‘Insafiyans’. According to Political analysts PTI has a significant vote bank in Central, Southern and Western Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Upper Sindh. PTI claims to be Pakistan’s only non family party. According to International Republican Institute (IRI), as of May 2012, PTI is Pakistan’s most popular party.
