Abbottabad is a district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. The city of Abbottabad being the principal town.Neighbouring districts are Mansehra to the north, Muzaffarabad to the east, Haripur to the west, and Rawalpindi to the south.
According to an estimate this had risen to 1.05 million in 2008. according to hazara gazzeter the main tribes are the Dhunds, Tanolis, Awans, Jadoons,Kashmiris, shilmani, Sarrara, Karlals,Qureshi,mughals, Gujjars, Syed and Satti.
Lying on the fringes of the Himalayas, Abbottabad in its 1,967 square kilometres wide expanse is famous for its Galiyat. Abbottabad city itself is a popular hill station. Originally part of the Hazara division, of which the city served as the headquarters, Abbottabad was given district status in 1981. It has two National Assembly and five provincial assembly seats. Prominent names from the district include Amanullah Khan Jadoon, Air Marshal Asghar Khan and Sardar Mehtab Khan.
