Sanghar District is one of the largest districts of Sindh province, Pakistan. It is located in the centre of Sindh and is bounded to the east by India. The district capital, Sanghar, is itself a small city roughly 35 miles (56 km) east-south-east of the city of Nawabshah and the same distance north of Mirpur Khas. Its primary industry is agriculture. Sanghar district is among largest producers of cotton in Pakistan.

Sanghar is largest producer of Cotton after Yahim Yar Khan

According to the 1998 census of Pakistan, the district had a population of 1,453,028, of which 22.13% were located urban areas. District has a rare combination of mystical and political energy. This energy seems to draw hundreds of people, particularly those speaking Sindhi, Balochi, Urdu and Punjabi, towards one spiritual leader, Pir Pagaro. Politically, the district is an impregnable fortress of Pir Pagaro and over the decades no political entity has ever been able to dethrone his candidates. Despite that, at least three political parties – PPP, MQM and PMLN – also have roots here.

Sanghar has a significant status emblematic for buffs of the independence movement. Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi, the  Grandfather of the present Pir Pagaro, was hanged by the British administration for refusing to abandon attacks against symbols of colonialism. The Hurs, Pir Pagaro’s loyal band of men, are fierce fighters and many scores of them fought alongside Pakistani troops in the 1965 and 1971 wars against India.
